I loves me some McMurtry. his song "choctaw bingo" is another american original anthem (not as political in the same way, but it's a doozy). he calls it a "song about the north texas/southern oklahoma crystal meth industry," but it's really about a family reunion...hehe...
check out his "live in aught three" album...
Way cool! Never heard that before.
